Providing Effective Legal Strategies

Is there a perfect parenting plan?

Child custody is an important factor in any divorce. Determining what happens to your child is necessary, even if neither parent really wants to consider spending time apart from their child.

The reality of a divorce is that there is no option but to divide your time with your child. The good news, though, is that a good parenting plan makes a world of difference. If you and your spouse can get along following the divorce, then there may even be options like co-habitating and co-parenting in unique ways that benefit your child.

What is the best kind of child custody arrangement?

It would be easy to suggest that there are perfect child custody arrangements, but there aren't. Instead, every case has to consider what is best for the child involved and how they'll grow up in the future. For most people, it's important to try to have joint custody, where both parents have around the same amount of time with the child. However, not all parents can work with that kind of scheduling, so what you decide to do may be different.

Courts like to see both parents play an active role in a child's life, so the likelihood is that both parents will have an opportunity to see their child. Joint custody is always preferred over sole custody unless there is a reason, like abuse or parenting problems, that make it necessary for one parent to take over the child's care.

Deciding on your parenting plan may not be simple, but if you and your spouse can sit down and consider your child's needs, you'll be able to come up with a solution.
