Restraining Orders

Lawyer Protecting You From Domestic Violence

At the Law Offices of Stephen J. Bedor in Lake Oswego, Oregon, our lawyers represent clients in one of the most dangerous and troubling of family law issues: domestic violence.

Representing Victims of Domestic Violence

If you have been physically harmed or feel in danger of being harmed by your spouse, ex-spouse, partner, the parent of your minor child or someone you lived with within the past two years, you have a right to obtain a restraining order against that person.

A restraining order will bar the person named in it from contacting you or coming near you. We can also arrange to have the restraining order give protections to your children as well.

Restraining orders are valuable tools that can help protect victims of physical abuse. Sadly, however, they are frequently misused to gain an advantage in divorce or custody disputes.

Representing Those Falsely Accused of Domestic Violence

If you have been served with a restraining order, you could face serious consequences that may include everything from jail time to unequal treatment regarding family law issues, such as custody and visitation. A record of domestic violence can make it difficult to obtain a job or to be accepted into some educational programs.

If you have been falsely accused of domestic violence, it is extremely important to contact a family law attorney as soon as possible. We will request a hearing to challenge the restraining order. Unless the request is made within 30 days from the date you were served with the order, the order will become permanent.

Don't delay. We have been protecting the rights and the safety of clients throughout the Portland area for more than 25 years. We would like to help you, too.
